Labor Day always feels like the last chance for a big summer activity, so take advantage of your long weekend by getting out and doing something fun! It can be tempting to sleep your weekend away, but when the weather gets cold, you’ll be thankful you were able to have one last hooray and spend some time outside in the warm weather. See some of the activities we’re adding to our calendars and don’t forget to wear your favorite red, white and blue outfit!
See a Baseball Game
There’s no better way to spend Labor Day than watching the great American pastime! Grab your favorite baseball hat and jersey and head over to the Bronx. The Yankees will be playing the Texas Rangers on Monday, September 9th in the afternoon at Yankee Stadium. Indulge in a hot dog and some crackerjacks and feel like a true American! If you’d rather beat the heat, you can opt to turn on your TV instead and watch from your couch with friends instead.
Take a Hike
Enjoy your day off this LDW in the great outdoors! Try to travel outside the city for some fresh air and exercise that will have you feeling refreshed. If you’re looking for something relaxing, try Cold Spring Harbor Park on Long Island or head up to Bear Mountain State Park for an exciting challenge that is perfect for your IG feed. Even strolling through Central Park can do the trick if you’re not able to leave the city!
Head to the Beach
Take in the last bit of summer by laying out on the sand and going for a swim! Take a ferry over to Fire Island for the day for a full getaway experience. Be sure to climb the lighthouse and have some fun at the many bars and restaurants along the beachy shores before they close for the season. If you’re looking for a walk on the boardwalk and some time in the water, Long Beach makes another great beach option.
Go on a Vineyard Tour
There is no need to splurge on a trip to California or Europe to get some fine wine when you can take a trip to Long Island and visit one of their many vineyards! The Eastern End’s scenic vineyards offer tours, tastings, and a beautiful landscape to explore. Some even offer dinners and live music events to provide a day full of exciting activities!
Enjoy Beautiful Art
Looking for some beautiful inspiration? The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit will be having its fall show on Labor Day weekend. This event includes local artists from New York and others from around the world and features paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and more. Booths are located along the sidewalks surrounding Washington Square Park so you can have a picnic in the park and then take a stroll through all the stalls to enjoy some beautiful art.
Listen to Live Music
Brooklyn Music week runs from August 29th through September 2nd to showcase local Brooklyn talent and celebrate the area’s rich cultural history. Not only will there be live musical performances, but also an art expo, fashion show, and panels. Be sure to check it out and enjoy some great tunes!
We hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day! Let us know how you’re celebrating down in the comments!
