5 Places to Visit in New York City When Springtime Hits

A visit to New York City is always a good idea, whether you want a kiss at the top of the Empire State Building on a summer getaway or skate at Rockefeller Center at Christmastime. Springtime in New York City, however, is simply a treasure that is not to be missed. Between the blooms of Central Park and the refreshing al fresco dining, springtime in New York beckons. 

Botanical Gardens

Most major metropolitan areas have some kind of botanical gardens to visit, but the New York Botanical Gardens are especially lovely in the springtime. You can check out the Orchid Show, which is an annual event that includes classes, lectures about orchids and much more, making it the perfect springtime destination for the flower or plant lover. It is the largest orchid festival in the nation, with aficionados traveling from the four corners. While you are there, don’t forget to check out the most vibrant spring displays, including the azaleas, daffodils, and cherry blossoms.

Yankee Stadium

From its legendary blue seats to its longstanding history in the Bronx, Yankee Stadium is a New York landmark that is well-known worldwide. Whether you want to recreate a moment you witnessed in a movie or catch a Yankees game in the spring, it is a must-see when you visit New York in the springtime. If you are a baseball culture lover, the sight and smell of the stadium will make you grin and scramble to buy that hotdog and cold beverage. Bring your glove just in case you get lucky with a pop fly.

Flea Markets

You have not shopped if you have never been to a New York flea market. Seasonal flea markets in New York feature the most interesting people on earth with even more interesting wares to buy. If it is a nice weekend day be sure to check out the Union Square Farmer’s Market as well. 

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Central Park is the most well-known park in New York City, but Brooklyn Bridge Park is another must-visit, especially in the springtime. It is a great place to see Manhattan and enjoy the bursts of color blooming during the season. If you are with someone special, be sure to visit as the day winds down to see the bridge lit up, a truly romantic site in the city. If you are bringing the family, check out the different fun festivals and free movie and music festivals held in the park. Be sure to visit the Conservancy’s free Environmental Education Center.

Washington Square Park

Another great outdoor spot to hit in the springtime is Washington Square Park. Filled with street performers and vibrant personalities, there are fun people to meet at the park every day. During the springtime, however, it is also home to the Outdoor Art Exhibit. If you are a lover of art and culture you will enjoy meeting artists and viewing their drawings, paintings and other artwork. There are also plenty of crafts and pieces of art to buy if you are looking to increase your collection.

Anywhere you go in New York is going to be beautiful in the springtime, so feel free to include the typical tourist favorites in your itinerary. Add in a picnic at Central Park or a rooftop dining experience at one of the many restaurants that offer the experience to really make your trip to the Big Apple an unforgettable one.
